Argumentative Philosophy Essay Topics
Argumentative Philosophy Essay TopicsIf you are in a philosophy course and have an essay due at the end of the semester, you will want to select a topic based on argumentative philosophy essay topics. There are many different types of topics to choose from for your essay, but here are some to consider:Philosophical Dualism (Singer): According to this theory, a philosopher can deny some things but accept others. One example is that God exists while also denying the existence of others such as sin, suffering, and evil. Other examples of this are the existence of God and of free will. Many of the writers you have encountered in your studies have used this to support some of their arguments and have made this argument into a form of proof, so that the reader is convinced that it has been proved.Ontological Dualism (Schroeder): According to this particular type of dualism, God created everything, including everything that has ever existed. For example, without God there would be no heaven , no hell, no evil, no suffering, and no good. So, according to this theory, you cannot know if there is a God because all things would have existed anyway.Philosophical Platonism (Hicks): According to this argument, everything that exists has a form, and this form exists in everything that exists. So, for example, the form of water exists and the form of anything else does not exist.Metaphysical Empiricism (Kant): According to this type of philosophy, there is only one true reality, or the nature of reality, which is thought to be consistent with empirical knowledge. It is known as the Kantian view of truth. The first half of this philosophy is similar to Descartes' conception of the mind and its relation to the body, which you learned in your intro course.Epistemological Idealism (Locke): According to this type of philosophy, the knowledge we have about the nature of reality is based on our senses. In other words, we have empirical knowledge of the objects around us and that our k nowledge is limited to what we see. The second half of this philosophy was heavily influenced by Hume's skepticism, which you learned in your intro course.Philosophical Materialism (Leibniz): According to this view, there is nothing except matter, space, and time, and these elements have independent existence. So, for example, we do not perceive objects outside of our bodies, and they do not exist outside of ourselves. So, there are many different philosophical essay topics available for you to choose from. All of them have their own merits and demerits, so it is important that you choose one of these. You will want to be able to express yourself clearly and succinctly in your philosophical essay.
